St. FRANCIS DE SALES SCHOOL SILAPATHAR had its birth on 8th December 2012 as its foundation stone was laid on the said date by Rev.Fr. Francis Thadathil then provincial of MSFS North East India Province. To witness this great event Sr. Sherly Chacko then provincial of the Holy Cross sisters of Chavanod, Fr. Thomas Kollathuvayalil Parish Priest and construction in charge of the new school, Fr. SajiTharayil Principal of Don Bosco High school Silapathar, many other fathers from Upper Assam apostolic community and sisters from Holy Cross convent Silapathar were present. Students from Don Bosco High School presented few cultural items to make the day colourful. Silapathar Municipal Town Committee granted permission to construct and establish SFS School in the year 2015. The construction work was entrusted to Mr. Sirish Chandra Singha under the engineering guidance of Mr. JitinKumbang.
‘St. Francis De Sales School (CBSE), Silapathar’ was established in the year 2015 with a motto ‘Light to Enlighten’. On 8th April 2015 the new school at Silapathar began with classes 1 to 3 with the total strength of 134 students. On the above said day at 8.00am Fr. Thomas Kollathuvayalil, the manager of the school gathered the parents and students of the new school in the presence of Fr. Thomas Arackel and Sr. Raja Selvy the superior of the Holy Cross convent, in the new school building for its first day of the class. Fr. Thomas Kollathuvayalil prayed for God’s blessings and blessed the class rooms and welcomed the new principal Fr. Thomas Arackel and the teaching staff namely, Sir.Jibin Sir. Bipin,Sir.Afsal, Sir. Lijo, Madam JahnabiDoley and Madam Sonia. Fr. Thomas Kollathuvayalilmanager of the school said “we have an excellent teaching staff under the guidance of Fr. Thomas Arackel and they are a blessing from God for the people of Silapathar”.
The second year of its establishment (2016) SFS School began its LKG and UKG sessions and also the school was up graded to class 4 with a total strength of 332 students both boys and girls. The students consist of various ethnic groups such as Assamise, Bodos, Bengalis, Biharis, Malwaris, Missings, Muslims and Nepalis. During the second year of its inception the school was officially inaugurated on (19-03-2016) by Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji District Mr. Victor Carpenter in the presence of Rev. Dr. George Panthanmackel the Provincial, Rev. Bishop Michael Akasius the bishop of Tezpur, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Mappilaparambil the regional superior, and many other invited guests.
At present (Yr.2020) school has excellent teaching staffs coupled with complete smart class rooms. There are 26 staff members and one religious sister of the Holy cross and Fr. Thomas Arackel along with eight non-teaching staff for the daily functioning of the school. Total number of students is about 800 both boys and girls together.
Rev. Fr. Peter Parankimalil is the manager of the school who takes care of all the physical aspects of the school efficiently and supports all the activities of the school. In the year 2019school got LPC for the land in the name of SFS School which was existing before in the name of Don Bosco Higher secondary School. Having got the LPC the school manager and principal tried their level best to make all official documents needed for the elementary school prior permissionfrom the SEBA and submitted all documents to the said office inDecember 2020.On 28th December 2020, Mr. PhatikDoley AES, theInspector of Schools (DDC) came to inspect the school and was happy with the way the school was functioning. He forwarded a positive report of the school to The Deputy Director of Secondary education Assam on 29th December.And on 31 st December 2020 SFS School got prior permission from SEBA to run school up to Class 8. As years are passing by the new school is getting into a system of smooth functioning and more and more facilities are added to it. A well set up library, a strongly set up fire and safety measures, a well equipped science composite lab and a beautiful foot ball ground and many more amenities are made available for the students at SFS School.
